Health workers others kidnapped in Ondo...As Amotekun rescue victims
Midnight horror hit residents of Okejebu, heart of Akure, Ondo state capital as suspected kidnapper abducted six medical personnel during a midnight attack on a health facility in the Oke Ijebu area of Akure, throwing residents into panic and fear.
The attack, which occurred around 2:00 a.m. in the early hours of Saturday, was carried out at a health centre opposite Mega School, where the gunmen reportedly arrived in a large bus and forcefully gained entry into the premises.
Eyewitness accounts revealed that the attackers, believed to be heavily armed, overpowered the few people present at the facility and systematically rounded up health workers, including interns who were on night duty.
One of the patients at the centre, who narrowly escaped the ordeal, recounted that the gunmen operated with precision and speed, leaving little room for resistance.
Saying “They came in a big bus and entered the hospital forcefully. Before anyone could react, they gathered all the staff on duty and marched them outside. They took about six of them away,” the witness said.
The abductors reportedly bundled the victims into the waiting vehicle and sped off to an unknown destination, throwing the entire community into confusion and distress.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident or confirm efforts being made to track down the perpetrators and rescue the victims.
Residents of Oke Ijebu have expressed shock over the daring nature of the attack, describing it as a disturbing escalation of insecurity in the area. Many have called on relevant authorities to intensify surveillance and ensure the immediate and safe return of the abducted health workers.
Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, has successfully rescued five kidnap victims in two separate overnight operations in Akure South Local Government Area.
In a swift development, the Corps Commander of the state security Network code named Amotekun, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed the development, revealing that a 45-year-old man and his 15-year-old son were abducted at Pelebe, on the outskirts of Oda Road, Akure, between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
According to him, the victims were freed around 1:00 a.m. by Amotekun’s Rapid Response Squad after a fierce confrontation with the kidnappers.
Adeleye further disclosed that three health workers who had been abducted earlier also regained their freedom at about 4:30 a.m. along Olokuta in Ondo Road.
They are currently receiving medical attention at an Amotekun facility.
Reassuring residents, the commander emphasized that the protection of lives and property remains a top priority of the state government. He also urged the public to support security agencies with timely and credible information to strengthen safety efforts across the state
