Ondo Amotekun Arrests Inter State Motorbikes Snatcher
A 19-year-old motorbike snatcher operating between Kwara State and Ondo State has been arrested by operatives of the Ondo State Security Network codenamed Amotekun Corps.
The suspect identified as Oyediran Ayomide was arrested during the ongoing special inter-boundry security patrol, tagged: “Le Won Jade”(Chase Them Out) by the operatives.
Disclosing this at news conference in Akure,Ondo state capital on Thursday, the Corps Public Relations Officer (PRO), Superintendent Jimoh Adeniken said the suspect was arrested at Ajue in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
According to him, the suspect fled Kwara State after allegedly attacking a commercial motorcyclist(Okada rider) with a sledgehammer in Omu-Aran community, Kwara State recently.
He snatched the motorbike of his victim and fled to Ajue in Ondo State .
The Amotekun PRO stated that: “Further investigation revealed that the suspect remained in Ore for some time before attempting to return to Kwara State believing the rider may have died from the attack.
“However, security personnel in Ajue community, who had been on alert, eventually apprehended him.
“The suspect (Ayomide) admitted to committing the crime with the intention of using the motorcycle for commercial purposes in Ore.
“He told the commercial motorcyclist (Okada rider) to take him from Omu-Aran in Kwara to a farm settlement.
“When they got there, he pretended to be making a phone call to distract him(the rider), then hit the motorcyclist on the head with a sledgehammer, who abandoned the motorcycle and ran for his life.”
The PRO disclosed that the suspect has been handed over to the Kwara State Local Government Security Initiative for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Meanwhile, a representative of the Kwara security outfit, who on ground to receive the suspect, appreciated Governor, Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for his efforts in strengthening security across the state.
The Kwara security operative expressed optimism for deeper collaboration between the two states security outfits at stamping out crime.
